Building Base Muscle
March 15, 2006
The number of women participating in strength training has increased dramatically over the last ten years. Muscle is what gives our bodies shape. The more lean muscle we have on our bodies, the more fat we will burn on a daily basis. Muscle is also more dense than fat so 1 pound of muscle takes up less space on our bodies than 1 pound of fat. Lean muscle helps to support our bones and our joints. Over time we will all develop some degree of osteoarthritis, however the muscle on our bodies will provide support to allow us to continue an active lifestyle for years to come .For those of you who are just beginning to weight train, you want to start with a total body workout to lay down an overall foundation of muscle. Once you have a solid base, you can then focus on shaping and defining specific areas.
