Sun Protection

March 31, 2006

With the beautiful spring weather we have extra motivation to exercise outside. This is wonderful for our bodies and our spirits but we must protect our skin. The incidence of skin cancer has increased dramatically over the past 2 decades. The first step with which we are all familiar but do not always practice is to always wear sunscreen of SPF 25 or above. You will still tan, the process is simply more gradual and less damaging to the skin. Try to avoid excessive exposure during 10 am and 2 pm when the sun’s rays are the strongest. Today there are always several brands of sun protective clothing. The clothing has an UPF or Ultraviolet protection factor to protect your skin during outdoor activities. You can still enjoy the outdoors and the sun safely by taking the proper precautions, be proactive and establish smart sun protective habits for you and your family.
