Push-up on Ball
July 14, 2006
Using a fitness ball can help make many basic exercises more challenging. If you have been doing basic push-ups, you can boost the intensity by placing your feet on top of an exercise ball and challenging your balance. This will change the focus of the push-up to target the upper chest. It will also help to strengthen your abs and your lower back b/c you will have to tighten these muscles to help stabilize the body. The key is to keep your body in a flat plank position without letting the hips drop. If you find it too difficult to balance at first, place the ball against a wall to ease yourself into the movement.
